end of the first half
Cubs lost today at Wrigley: 4-2. It was Dempster’s first loss at Wrigley this season.
I realized that I haven’t posted many pictures from my adventures at Wrigley this year, so on the brighter side, it might be nice to look back on some of the high lites from the first half of this Cubs season:
Mar 31– Opening Day— the unveiling of the Ernie Banks statue, Kosuke Fukudome’s home run in the ninth inning to tie the game 3-3.

Apr 15– Jackie Robinson Day + Opening Night— Players wear #42 to honor Jackie Robinson. It was also Dusty Baker’s return to Chicago since he left the Cubs at the end of the 2006 season.

April 23– Cubs win the 10,000th game in franchise history
_______________________________________
May 16– Cubs win their 10th straight game (dating back to 2007) over the Pittsburgh Pirates. This is the first time the Cubs have won 10 straight against a single team since the 19th century.
_______________________________________
May 30– The Cubs come back from a 9-1 deficit to beat the Colorado Rockies.
_______________________________________
June 1– The Cubs sweep a seven game home series for the first time since 1970. They are also the best team in baseball on June 1 for the first time since 1908.

June 12– Cubs host the first throwback day at Wrigley. They honor Cubs baseball being on WGN for 60 years by televising the game in black and white, with limited camera angles, and old-style graphics. Jim Edmonds homers to tie the game in the ninth inning to send Len Kasper into a frenzy with Jack Brickhouse’s famous “Hey Hey!” call. Cubs eventually win it in extras on a bases loaded hit by pitch.

June 22– Cubs sweep the White Sox in a crazy weekend series. Ramirez hits a walkoff home run in the Friday game, the Cubs score nine runs in the fourth inning on Saturday, and the Cubs complete the sweep on Sunday night baseball on ESPN.

Here’s to an exciting second half… Go Cubs.
