Cubs needs

Published by kevinryan12 at 11:51 pm under off season Edit This

There was this article from ESPN about the Cubs’ needs this off season.

The article basically did not mention anything different or meaningful.  Most of the concerns are outlined with the usual suspects: Ryan Dempster, Kerry Wood, Kosuke Fukudome, Jim Edmonds…. you get the idea.

I guess the only meaningful part was that it said that the Cubs seem to be returning their core group of players.  This same core group got them to the playoffs in 2007 and again in 2008.  So why not stick with them in 2009?  I guess the problem is that I worry that while we stick with this same core group, the team will only get older… meanwhile, the other teams in the Central may get stronger.  I overheard that the St. Louis Cardinals are going to try and make some huge deal to land Matt Holliday from the Colorado Rockies.  And you never know what the Brewers may do with CC Sabathia.  The Reds should be improved (even with Dusty as manager) and the Astros always seem to be a threat.

I want to say that I agree with ESPN in the sense that the Cubs just must make the playoffs… they really only need a proven “hero” in October.  I don’t know if I agree with this seeing as the Tampa Bay Rays made this years’ World Series…

But then again, what do I know?
